About Us

The Australia Day Council of Western Australia (ADCWA), established in 1977 is a part of the ‘national family’ of eight State and Territory Australia Day Councils.

It is a non-profit incorporated body which supports the mission and objectives of the National Australia Day Council but enjoys autonomy in the management of its own day-to-day affairs.

ADCWA’s objectives are consistent with those of the national body, and specifically target all citizens of Western Australia, providing the opportunity to celebrate Australia Day, to grow together as one people and to help build a better Australia for future generations.

The mission of the Australia Day Council of Western Australia is:
  • To foster national pride in every Western Australian
  • To promote the observance and celebration of Australia Day in Western Australia
  • To instil in all Western Australians, whatever their origins, a desire to contribute to our nation's future
  • To achieve these aims by encouraging all Western Australians to live and work together as one people
  • To stimulate concern for Australia as a nation
  • To create an awareness of, and a value for, our heritage
Our aims and objectives are:
  • To promote greater awareness of, and participation in, the celebration of Australia Day by all Local Government Authorities throughout Western Australia
  • To provide all Western Australians, whatever their geographical location, with the opportunity to celebrate Australia Day
  • To foster a greater understanding and respect of each other through participation in the celebration of Australia Day by the general community
  • To encourage all Western Australians to work toward making Australia a better place in which to live now and in the future
  • To develop programs aimed at junior citizens of Western Australia, promoting the values of personal pride, effort and achievement
  • To acknowledge the efforts of Western Australians, especially youth, whose contributions to the community reflect the objectives of the Australia Day Council of Western Australia
  • To establish a network of specialist committees through which the mission of the Australia Day Council of Western Australia can be achieved
  • To generate effective communications utilising both electronic and print media
  • To inform Western Australians of the development and progress of activities for the celebration of Australia Day
  • To promote membership and financial support of the Australia Day Council of Western Australia, to all sections of the community, to further assist in achieving its aims and objectives
