The Australia Day Lunch traditionally heralds the beginning of Australia
Day festivities in Western Australia. This exclusive
event, sponsored by Australia Post and replicated
nationally, is a significant corporate, civic and
community function attended by 300 people. Associate Sponsor for 2008 is the Margaret River Wine Association.
The Governor
of Western Australia will deliver his Australia Day Address and the keynote speaker will be Dr James Bradfield Moody, from the ABC's New Inventors and GM International Development for CSIRO.
It's a patriotic and inspiring launch for the Australia Day celebrations in Western
Australia and has been conducted each year for the
past decade with increasing popularity.

Celebrating its 24th anniversary, the spectacular
Lotterywest Skyworks has grown into a must-see event
for Perth residents and visiting guests on Australia Day 26 January!
The highlight event for Australia Day 2008, this
spectacular free fireworks display above the Perth
skyline is the largest in the nation, attracting over
400,000 people to the shores of the Swan River and
numerous vantage points in South Perth and Kings Park.
The Perth sky will become an unforgettable
kaleidoscope of colour and light accompanied by a MIX 94.5 lively
Australian music simulcast.
Now known as Australia's biggest Australia Day celebration,
Lotterywest Skyworks will also feature plenty of family
entertainment throughout the day including air displays
by the RAAF, Water Bombers and Tiger Moths. Enjoy all the entertainment happening around the river in the afternoon before you settle down for the big Skyworks
event.

Oz Concert 2008 will be held in the magnificent gardens of Government House from 8pm until 10pm on the eve of Australia Day, Friday January 25, 2008. 6,000 free tickets are available to the public by completing a coupon published in The West Australian on December 5, 7, 12 and 14, 2007.
The 2008 concert will mark the 20th anniversary of this spectacular Western Australian celebration of Australia Day and more than 300 performers will present an inspiring and entertaining event to celebrate Australia’s vibrant and unique culture and identity.
Oz Concert 2008 will be seen by a world wide audience when it is telecast live on the Internet and Access 31 and telecast on two occasions on SBS TV following Australia Day. SBS TV will also telecast Oz Concert 2007 on Australia Day 2008.

| Cicerello’s Fremantle Cracker Night: Fireworks fun on again this Australia Day |

From 8.45pm the skies above the port city will come alive with plenty of firework fun in what's been described by Fremantle Mayor peter Tagliaferri as a 'family-friendly alternative'. From 5pm - 6.30pm the Perth Fortress Salvation Army Band will also perform on Fremantle Esplanade.
There are three firing locations this time around – a pontoon in the middle of Fishing Boat Harbour, at the end of Capo D’Orlando Drive and a new one at the southern breakwater groyne near the Fremantle Sailing Cub, allowing for slightly larger shells.
Once again sponsored by Cicerello’s with 96FM and 6PR coming on board as media partners, Mayor Tagliaferri said the event was a chance to put a focus on Fremantle as part of Australia Day, near a relaxed water setting.
The best vantage points to enjoy the fireworks from include;
Fremantle Esplanade Reserve
Fishing Boat Harbour – this location is expected to get busy early
Monument Hill – pedestrian access only
Bathers Beach
South Beach
A range of parking options available - Queensgate on Henderson St, Point St Car Park, Beach St Car Park. Wilson Park at South Beach will also be opened to allow extra parking. The Fremantle Tram will shuttle people to the Explanade from 4pm to 10pm, taking in Beach St, Phillimore St, Cliff St, Marine Tce, Norfolk St & Parry St before the event and Arundel St, marine Tce, Douro Rd & South Tce after the event. Signage will be in place. The CAT bus and FreoStar services wil be extended until 10pm. The Fremantle event, offering a family-friendly alternative for Australia Day celebrations, is sponsored by Cicerello’s Fremantle and is supported by media partners 96FM and 6PR.
Capo D'Orlando Drive (from cnr of Fleay Lane) and Car Park No 2 on marine Tce will be closed form 6am. Mews Rd will be closed from 6pm. Road closures will also be in effect near the southern breakwater groyne, close to Fremantle Sailing Club, from early on in the day. Fishing Boat Harbour will be closed to all pleasure watercraft from 6pm onwards.

This friendly Sports Performance and City of Cockburn Australia Day Triathlon is a direct invitation to those new to the sport, attracting around 300 individual competitors and 30 three-man teams. Consisting of a 400 metre swim, 20 kilometre cycle and 4 kilometre run, it is a great way to feel good about yourself before you dig into your sumptuous Australia Day BBQ feast! The sky will explode over the Town of Bassendean on Saturday 26 January as hundreds of families gather to celebrate Australia Day. The event will include a concert by a highly entertaining band, a Citizenship Ceremony, presentation of the Premier's Active Citizenship Awards and a huge fireworks display starting around 9.00pm. Make sure you arrive early and bring a torch, blanket and a picnic, or purchase food and drinks at the venue. Free entry ($2 donation for parking). The Biggest Citizenship Ceremony ever in Western Australia!

The North Metropolitan Zone Cities of Joondalup, Stirling and Wanneroo have come together to host a joint Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony on Saturday 26 January 2008. This ceremony will be the biggest citizensihp ceremony ever held in Western Australia with approximately 1,500 recipients set to become new Australians on the day and over 5,000 people expected to attend this exciting event. There will be an array of 'Aussie themed' entertainment on stage from 7.30am Entertainment will include the Mucky Duck Bush Band, 'wandering man' Greg Hastings, didgeridoo and Djitty Djitty Aboriginal Dancers. There will also be face painters and rides from Mad Cow Entertainment. Post-ceremony entertainment will finish at 12.30pm.
This is a Drug, Smoke and Alcohol Free event.
